Random ramblings

I've been told that my posts are short. The person that told me that they are short probably didn't read my last longish post, which I posted about two months ago, as it was be ranting about Google's ToS. It's evil. I probably don't do much long posts because I am too lazy to think enough to write a long post without ranting, raving or rambling. Which probably means that I'm going to end up doing at least one of those three things. Though it's not likely to clog up my front page because I have more links, which I make by having stuff in the MoreContent HTMLText field. Then the template file (ArticleHolder.ss, I think) see that MoreContent has some value, so the if is true, so the more link is stuck in. A similar thing happens with the RSS feed, though that's in a different template file. Can't remember which, and can't be bothered figuring it out either.

I am currently removing things from my virtualised version of XP SP3, which I use solely for testing sites in IE6 and 7. Microcrap was nice enough to give IE a different rendering engine for Vista. Which means I should probably install Vista some time. Maybe before Windows 7 (NT 6.1, stupid marketing people can't count or read), so if anyone has a Vista install disk and the code that comes with it that I can leech, that might be helpful. Especially since we seem to be good at going over our 40 GB cap, so I probably shouldn't download it.

The stupid uninstaller says I need to restart windows before the removing takes affect. So I close the window, don't restart, and the deletion worked. Stupid windows. Is more stupid than people that still use OS 9. According to awstats, Start-UP (I work for them) has had 526 hits from non-OSX macs. That's out of 1320451 mac hits and 9024391 total. I could find those stats for my blog, but can't be bothered.

This post also makes it so I have more posts than comments. Doing 15 posts last month didn't help much. The post that has the most comments is the one about me changing blog system, with 9, followed me announcing something that didn't happen on 7. The rest of the 121 comments are in two 6s, a 5, 5 4s, 4 3s, 19 2s and 19 1s. That had better add up, or I can't count.

It's getting harder to tell Blumpy and Sergey apart just by looking at them. Blumpy's the one on the left, Sergey's on the right and Blubert's in the middle. This is taken just after Sergey arrived, and Blumpy was a lot more faded. Now that I've been getting cuddly with them both for about 3 and a half months, Sergey is also faded. Means I have to look for the misplaced stitch line on Sergey. Or look really close at the shades of cuddly blue. They're still both just as cuddly though :)

I have been doing COMP303 at VUW this past trimester, and had my final exam on the oneth of November, in the morning. It was a Saturday, so the 18 wasn't running, so I got to walk. Walking there was just windy, but walking home was great fun. Lots of wind and rain, and Larry's cover made him stay dry, so I could skip songs I didn't like, and bug people on IRC and stuff. I got my results from my exam yesterday. 126/180. A B. As the exam is worth 70% of my total mark, and I have 34/400 in my assignments that I know about (300 worth hasn't been marked yet), I pass. YAY! I don't have my final result yet, but I'll probably blog it when I do, unless it's completely horrid.

There was the Glasgow house dinner at The Pines on Thursday. My blog broke just before I left, and the fix I had in place had a typo. I went to correct it, but by then I had lost reception. So my blog had a nice PHP notice level error message at the top of it all Thursday evening, until I got home and just removed the line that called the error message. At the dinner, national and international reps were read out. 9 were read out, and 7 out of the 12 year 12s present were on the list.

I spent most of this afternoon working. I was changing a design I was given into a SilverStripe template. Then I set up a test site, so the client could make sure they liked it. That was horrible. I spent more time entering the content I was given than actually coding the template or single PHP page that was needed. Then I had to test it. Firefox was the only one that screwed up, giving a linked image a border. Stupid FireFox. Should be more like Safari, and should look pretty too. (Firebug is ugly. Use Safari 4's web inspector. Does everything Firebug can and looks better.)

I could keep rambling on, about things like being hit by a 50 cal bullet, bashing heads off with my hammer and the Phoenix winning. Ooh, I should ramble about that.

Last night, the Phoenix were playing away against Sydney. Leo scored in the 34th minute, making up for missing his one-on-one against Queensland. The bling equalised sometime during then second half. In the 89th minute, there was a handball in the box, so we got a penalty. And Smeltz scored! YAY!!!!! Perth is on the bottom, where they belong! The fever took their tops off! I wanted to join in.

Now may also be a good time to point out Simon Sites (you can get to it from the services link at the top as well). You can hire me to make sites for you, so long as you have a design. I use SilverStripe, so that's what I make sites in. Nice and cheap at $25/hour, though I cannot provide hosting, though I can arrange for it.

And that's all I can be bothered doing now. I should probably set up trackbacks sometime, just in case. More fun coding to be had!

  • Summarise it yourself. I can't be bothered and have no recollection of what I posted.
